Jñāna-Vijñāna Yoga · The Yoga of Knowledge and Realization
Bhagavan reveals his complete (samagra) form: he alone is the root of everything, and refuge in him carries one across maya.
What is happening here?
Moved by the praise of the devotee at the end of Chapter 6, Bhagavan begins this chapter on his own, without Arjuna asking. He promises knowledge together with realization (jñāna with vijñāna): firmly accepting that he is the ultimate cause of the whole world is 'jñāna', and actually experiencing that nothing exists apart from him is 'vijñāna'. He describes his two natures — the eightfold lower (aparā) prakṛti and the higher (parā) prakṛti that has become the jīva — and says the world is strung on him like beads on a thread. He then explains why people do not know him (delusion by the three guṇas), who takes refuge in him (four kinds of devotees), and why the one who sees 'everything is Vāsudeva' is the rarest of all.
Why it comes hereयह अध्याय यहाँ क्यों
In 6.47 Bhagavan said that among all yogis the one who worships him with faith and love is the best. Just as a devotee becomes absorbed when he remembers Bhagavan, Bhagavan becomes absorbed when the subject of devotees comes up — and in that absorption he opens Chapter 7 unasked, to describe the complete form such a devotee comes to know.
