Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारIn this human birth, one who takes refuge in God knowing 'all is God' is a great soul, and very rare.
What is Krishna saying?
The human birth is the last of many births: God has given it so the soul can step out of the round of birth and death. Swamiji says this life is meant only for one's own highest good, not for enjoying sense pleasures. At the start of creation God alone became many, and at the end He alone remains — so in the middle too there is nothing but Him. The wise devotee sees this, and seeing it is his surrender. Swamiji adds that God is not rare; what is rare is a person who sincerely sets out to reach Him.
Step by step
- 1
The human body is the last birth from God's side: He has given full freedom here to attain Him.
- 2
'Vasudeva is all' is not a state that comes and goes; it is the actual Truth, which never changes.
- 3
Two ways to it: set the world aside and keep only God (discernment), or see the world itself as God (devotion).
- 4
While we still give the world its own reality and importance, even imagining God in it does not bring this experience.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तGold and the ornaments
Ornaments were gold before they were made and will be gold when melted; in between too, they are only gold. Clay pots and sugar toys are the same. Before creation there was God and in the end God remains — so in between, there is only God.
Invited to a meal
When a host has invited you, laid out the seat, the leaf-plate and the water, it makes no sense to worry whether food will come. God has given us a human body and the means of liberation, like satsang and His Name; so we should keep practising with trust, without anxiety about the outcome.
It names the peak of the chapter's teaching and places it within reach of every human being, since this birth was given for exactly this.
