What is Krishna saying?
Verses 62–63 show what happens when one is not devoted to God. The jiva has God on one side and the world on the other; letting go of God's support, it has nothing left to think about but the world. Thinking of objects again and again, fondness and attachment arise; attachment makes one indulge, mentally or physically; the pleasure deepens the fondness and the thinking returns. Attachment turns into desire to obtain, and when someone blocks that desire, anger follows. Swamiji adds that behind every anger there is some attachment.
Step by step
- 1
Step 1 — Dwelling on objects (dhyayato vishayan): not thinking of God, one thinks only of the world.
- 2
Step 2 — Attachment (sanga): repeated thinking produces fondness; indulging in it, whether mental or physical, strengthens it further.
- 3
Step 3 — Desire (kama): attachment becomes the wish, 'may these things be mine'.
- 4
Step 4 — Anger (krodha): when fulfilment seems near and someone obstructs it, anger arises; if things keep coming, greed arises instead. The chain continues in 2.63.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तEvery anger hides an attachment
Angry at someone acting unjustly? There is attachment to justice. Angry at insult? Attachment to respect. At criticism? Attachment to praise. At blame? Attachment to the pride of being blameless.
What could this look like today?
Modern analogy · not from the sourceआधुनिक उदाहरण · मूल ग्रन्थसे नहींrelationships
You keep replaying someone's online profile; soon you want their attention; when they ignore you, irritation flares. The first link — the replaying — was where it could most easily have been cut.
Why it matters
It reveals that anger is not the start of the trouble but a late link in a chain that begins with idle dwelling on objects.
