Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारRestraining all the senses, the seeker should sit devoted to Me; one whose senses are under control has a steady intellect.

What is Krishna saying?
How is rasa to be removed? Krishna says: control the senses and become 'matparah', devoted to Me. When a seeker controls his senses, pride in his own strength tends to arise, and that pride keeps him from progressing and turns him away from God. So he should credit any success in restraint only to God's grace. Swamiji notes that even for the karma-yogi, who naturally relies on his own effort, Krishna out of special grace speaks of surrender to Him, because without devotion the senses are hard to bring fully under control.
Step by step
- 1
Being devoted to God means: God alone is mine and I am His; the world is not mine and I am not the world's.
- 2
Human birth, interest in practice, taking it up and its success all depend on God's grace.
- 3
In karma-yoga the senses come under control only with intense dispassion; with devotion, even a little dispassion suffices.
- 4
Withdrawing the senses does not guarantee steadiness (rasa may remain), but the steady one's senses are always under control.
Why it matters
It shows that self-control succeeds through surrender to God rather than through pride in one's own strength.
