What is Krishna saying?
Where does the demonic nature come from? From craving the world. The importance and pull we feel towards pleasures, possessions, honour and comfort lead towards hell. Of all inner enemies, desire is the root. Wanting enjoyment is kama, wanting to accumulate is lobha, and when either is blocked, anger arises; when all three grow strong, delusion follows, and with it the whole demonic nature. People aiming at enjoyment think these three help them get ahead, and that very belief is their downfall. Giving them up means not acting under their sway or with their support.

Appendix: all sins arise from these three. People and things are left behind here, but the inner disposition carries one to hell.
