English
Sadhaka-Sanjivanidaivo visiarasaI, prokta asurarn partha me snm There are two kinds of beings, in the werld-s-the.dtvlne and the demon-like. The divine, has been described at length. Hear from Me, O Partha (Arjuna) of the demon, in detail.
The idea
Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारThere are only two kinds of beings here, divine and demonic; having described the divine at length, Krishna now turns to the demonic.
What is Krishna saying?
Every being has a conscious part from God and an inert part from prakriti. When the conscious part faces the changing inert part, the demonic nature comes; when it turns away from prakriti towards God alone, the divine nature awakens. Divine qualities are natural to the jiva because it is God’s part; demonic ones are made by oneself. Only the human body has the discernment to give up the demonic nature fully. The seed of good feeling is never destroyed, because it is real (2.16), while bad feelings are born of bad company and cannot last.
Step by step
- 1
Actions follow one’s sense of ‘I’, and actions in turn harden it: ‘I am truthful’ leads to truth-telling and becomes firmer, while ‘I am worldly, my job is to enjoy and hoard’ makes lying easy and then seem unavoidable.
- 2
Those who do some worship while still relishing enjoyment and hoarding, and think them necessary, cannot really be called seekers.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तEven the cruellest has compassion
Even the cruellest butcher has some compassion, and even the worst thief some honesty. No one is without divine qualities, because every being is a part of God.
What could this look like today?
Modern analogy · not from the sourceआधुनिक उदाहरण · मूल ग्रन्थसे नहींwork
Tell yourself ‘everyone in this industry cuts corners’ and each corner you cut confirms the story. The same loop works the other way when your sense of self is ‘I am honest’.
Why it matters
The divide between divine and demonic is not between fixed types of people but between two directions every person can face.

The unreal has no existence and the real never ceases to be; the seers of truth have seen the essence of both.
