What is Krishna saying?
Once God alone becomes one’s aim (15.19), divine qualities begin to appear on their own; verses 1–3 describe them as inner disposition, conduct and influence. Fear comes from the prospect of losing the body or possessions. When one sees that the body is perishable anyway and that oneself is God’s imperishable part, fear goes. Some ‘fear’ is healthy: the fear of failing in duty or going against elders and scripture keeps one on the path and makes one fearless. True inner purity is losing attachment to the world and loving God, and the best way to it is not to take the inner instrument as one’s own.

- 1
Keeping spiritual practice and business in separate compartments, and allowing oneself lies and deceit in business, badly pollutes the mind.
- 2
Resolve never to repeat a wrong, and forgive whoever harmed you without waiting to be asked; this purifies the heart.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तRavana afraid
Humans, gods and demons all feared Ravana, yet when he went to abduct Sita, Ravana himself was afraid. Wrongdoing weakens the heart; one who purifies his conduct loses his fear.
What could this look like today?
Modern analogy · not from the sourceआधुनिक उदाहरण · मूल ग्रन्थसे नहींwork
A dishonest shortcut at work comes with a constant low hum of fear about being found out. Swamiji’s point is that the one who does wrong is the one who lives afraid.
Why it matters
Fearlessness heads the list because it follows directly from knowing that one belongs to God and not to perishable things.
