Chapter 12 · Verse 2

Those whose mind is set on Me are the best in yoga

mayyāveśya mano ye māṃ nityayuktā upāsate।

śraddhayā parayopetāste me yuktatamā matāḥ॥ 2॥

English

Sadhaka-Sanjivani

The Blessed Lord said: Those who, flxlng their mind on Me, worship Me ever steadfast and are endowed with supreme faith, are the most perfect Yogis, in My opinion.

The idea

Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivani

Devotees who fix their mind on the Lord, stay ever joined to Him and worship with supreme faith are, in His view, the finest yogis.

What is Krishna saying?

Arjuna asked who is better — worshippers of the personal Lord or of the formless. Krishna had already answered this in 6.47 unasked, but Arjuna did not catch it; Swamiji notes that what we hear without a question of our own rarely registers. Being 'ever-joined' means the self itself is joined to God: 'God alone is mine and I am His'. When the doer belongs to God, mind and intellect, his instruments, turn to God on their own. The mistake seekers make is to stay apart themselves and try to push the mind toward God.

Step by step

  1. 1

The mind goes where there is love; the intellect goes where there is faith.

  2. 2

Take what you read and hear as meant for you, and bring it into your life.

  3. 3

Knowledge removes sorrow; love goes further — knowledge gives unbroken joy, love an ever-growing one.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentary

Knowing money vs. being drawn to it

Knowing 'these are rupees' only removes ignorance; the pull comes from wanting more. Just so, knowledge only removes ignorance, while the power that draws one to God lies in love.

learning

A lecture you attend out of routine fades; the same point, answering a question you were stuck on, stays for life.

Why it matters

It answers Arjuna's question directly and relocates devotion from mental effort to belonging: accept that you are His, and the mind follows.
