एवमुक्त्वा हृषीकेशं गुडाकेश: परन्तप।

न योत्स्य इति गोविन्दमुक्त्वा तूष्णीं बभूव ह॥ ९॥

na yotsya iti govindamuktvā tūṣṇīṃ babhūva ha॥ 9॥

Weighing both sides, Arjuna concludes that fighting could at most bring kingdom, honour and fame, but not end the grief and anxiety in his heart. He respects Krishna's word and wants to accept it, but it does not sit right inside him, so he honestly states what he feels: 'I will not fight.' Having said everything, nothing is left to say, and he becomes silent.

दोनों पक्षोंपर विचार करके अर्जुन इस निर्णयपर पहुँचे कि युद्धसे राज्य, मान, यश भले मिल जाय, पर हृदयका शोक-चिन्ता दूर नहीं होगा। वे भगवान्की बातका आदर करते हैं, पर भीतर युद्धकी बात जँचती नहीं; इसलिये अपनी जँची हुई बात साफ कह देते हैं और कुछ कहनेको बाकी न रहनेसे चुप हो जाते हैं।
