na hi prapaśyāmi mamāpanudyād yacchokamucchoṣaṇamindriyāṇām।

कारण कि पृथ्वीपर धन-धान्य-समृद्ध (और) शत्रुरहित राज्य तथा (स्वर्गमें) देवताओंका आधिपत्य मिल जाय तो भी इन्द्रियोंको सुखानेवाला मेरा जो शोक है, (वह) दूर हो जाय (—ऐसा मैं) नहीं देखता हूँ।

What is Krishna saying?भगवान् क्या कह रहे हैं?

Arjuna suspects Krishna thinks victory and a kingdom will cure his sorrow, so he states his inner condition plainly. If his grief were about the kingdom, gaining it would end it; but it comes from the fear of his family's death, so a kingdom would only increase it — who would even be left to enjoy it? Swamiji notes a key difference from Chapter 1: there Arjuna's withdrawal came mainly from family attachment; here it arises from a newly awakened concern for his own true good.

अर्जुन सोचते हैं कि भगवान् समझते होंगे कि राज्य मिलनेसे मेरा शोक मिट जायगा। पर शोक राज्यके लिये होता तो राज्य मिलनेसे मिटता; यह कुटुम्ब-नाशकी आशंकासे है, राज्यसे और बढ़ेगा। पहले अध्यायमें उपरति कौटुम्बिक ममतासे थी, पर यहाँकी उपरति कल्याणकी वृत्ति पैदा होनेसे है—दोनोंमें बहुत अन्तर है।

जिनके लिये हमारी राज्य, भोग और सुखकी इच्छा है, वे (ही) ये सब (अपने) प्राणोंकी हमें न प्राणोंका मोह है और न धनकी तृष्णा है; हम मर बेशक जायँ, पर युद्धसे नहीं हटेंगे। अगर ये सब मर ही और धनकी आशाका त्याग करके युद्धमें खड़े हैं।
