Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारIf you do not fight this righteous war, you will give up your duty and your honour and incur sin.
What is Krishna saying?
Now begins the description of the harm of not fighting. Swamiji notes that 'atha chet' only supposes it: Arjuna, compelled by his own kshatriya nature, would fight anyway (18.60). But if he did not, he would abandon his dharma, take up another's dharma and incur sin, and people would say that even a hero like Arjuna was afraid of death, destroying his good name.
Step by step
- 1
Giving up a duty that has come by itself means taking up something that is not one's own dharma, and that is sin.
- 2
Arjuna feared sin from fighting; Krishna shows that sin lies in not fighting.
Why it matters
Walking away from a duty is itself a choice with consequences, not a neutral escape.
