Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारThis war has come to you unsought, an open gate to heaven; fortunate are the kshatriyas who get such a war.
What is Krishna saying?
Swamiji explains why the war came 'on its own': the Pandavas completed their exile, asked for their kingdom, and repeatedly proposed peace, but Duryodhana refused. For a kshatriya who fights bravely in such a righteous war that has come unsought, heaven stands open. Calling such kshatriyas 'happy' means that the joy of doing one's duty is not found in worldly pleasures — even animals and birds have those. Whoever gets the chance to do their duty should count themselves fortunate.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तNot even a needle-point of land
After the Pandavas served their twelve years of exile and one year incognito, Duryodhana said he would not give even a needle-point of land without war, and refused every peace offer. So the war came to them without their seeking it.
It reframes an unwanted duty as a fortunate opportunity rather than a burden.
