English
Sadhaka-SanjivaniThe Lord dwells in the hearts of all beings,O Arjuna, causing them by His illusive power, to revolve, in accordance with their nature, as if they are mounted on a wheel of the body.
The idea
Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारThe Lord dwells in every heart and, by His power, turns all beings riding the body-machine, according to their nature.
What is Krishna saying?
The link asks: the self is God’s part, while one’s nature belongs to prakriti and is self-made, so how does the self become subject to its nature? Answer: God, by His power, moves those who have taken the body as ‘I’ and ‘mine’. As long as one keeps that relation, God moves one according to one’s nature, and one keeps circling through birth and death. Mineness breeds like and dislike, which make one’s nature impure and binding. God’s power runs everything, but good or bad actions come from the nature one has made. Humans alone are free to improve or spoil their nature.
Step by step
- 1
God is everywhere, yet He is found in the heart, as water is everywhere underground yet drawn from a well.
- 2
A seeker’s common mistake is to keep reinforcing ‘God is far, not now, I am not worthy’. God is nearer even than the ‘I’.

Examples Swamiji gives in the commentaryव्याख्यामें स्वामीजीके दृष्टान्तRiding the train
Whoever boards an electric train has to go where the train goes; once he steps off, he no longer has to. As long as one rides the body with ‘I’ and ‘mine’, one is carried by one’s nature.
Ice and fire from one current
The same electricity freezes ice in one machine and makes heat in another; the current insists on neither. God’s power moves every body-machine, and what each produces depends on the nature built into it.
It explains why we feel driven by our nature, and it sets up the next verse, where the way out is taking refuge in the Lord.
