English
Sadhaka-SanjivaniThe Blessed Lord said: o pa.,€)ava, he doesnot hate illumination, activityand delusion when those are abundantly present, nor does he long for them, when all absent.
The idea
Summary based on Sadhak Sanjivaniसाधक-संजीवनीपर आधारित सारWhen clarity, activity or delusion arise, the one beyond the gunas does not resent them; when they subside, he does not long for them.
What is Krishna saying?
Clarity of senses and mind is the work of sattva, activity of rajas, and delusion of tamas. Even in one beyond the gunas, activity without desire continues, and ordinary mistakes in dealings, like taking a rope for a snake, can happen, but there is no confusion about what is real and unreal. He never thinks ‘let this mood not come’ or ‘let that mood return’. Moods come and go on their own and make no difference to him; his gaze does not even go there, because for him there is nothing but God.
What happens (hona)होना
- Moods of the three gunas arising in the mind
- A thought appearing on its ownवृत्तिका अपने-आप दीखना
What we do (karna)करना
- Liking or disliking them and linking with themउनसे राग-द्वेष करके सम्बन्ध जोड़ना
- Looking at it and taking it as your stateउसे देखकर अपनी स्थिति मान लेना
Step by step
- 1
What happens is collective; what we do is personal. We are responsible only for what we do.
- 2
A bad thought appearing is not a fault; the fault is in taking it up and treating it as your state. So a seeker need not panic when even a very bad thought shows up.
- 3
The one beyond the gunas is the seeker’s ideal, so the seeker too should not call moods good or bad, or take them as his own.
What could this look like today?
Modern analogy · not from the sourceआधुनिक उदाहरण · मूल ग्रन्थसे नहींmental health
A wave of anxiety before a presentation, a jealous flicker while scrolling a friend’s post: these arise. Swamiji’s line is that they are in the mind, not in you. Don’t welcome them, don’t fight them, and don’t claim them.
Why it matters
It frees the seeker from a very common trap: judging your progress by the passing moods of the mind.
